Zane Mathews

I did my first radio show back in high school on a small reel-to-reel machine, and I have been hooked on radio ever since. I started in radio in 2003, and there's no other place I would rather be. I’m a native of Colorado, but I have to tell you, living on the western slope is where it’s at. When I'm not in the studio at work, my favorite things to do are drink coffee, play golf, watch football and classic TV and movies, and enjoy good music.

Western Colorado to Miss Lunar Eclipse, But Not Meteors

The lunar eclipse this Friday (Oct.18) will be seen by much of the world, but not by sky watchers in the Grand Valley and in the western half of the United States. That is because the peak of the eclipse will occur at 5:50pm Mountain Time before the moon rises. Although it is a minor eclipse, I hate to miss any sort of celestial event.

Outcome Not in Doubt, How About These Odd Wagers Inside Broncos/Jaguars Game?

The Denver Broncos are 26 1/2 point favorites over Jacksonville Sunday, as of noon on Friday. The Broncos are averaging 46 points per game, while the Jaguars have scored only 51 points all season. From all indications, there's no need for either of these teams to show up. Is there any drama at all in Sunday's game at Sports Authority Field  at Mile High in Denver?

Remembering Colorado Astronaut Scott Carpenter

Colorado-born astronaut Scott Carpenter died Thursday at the age of 88. According to his wife, Patty, he had suffered a stroke and entered a Denver hospice. The couple, with 9 children and six grand children, have been living in Vail. Carpenter did what a lot of little boys like me dreamed of doing -but few ever accomplish -  being an astronaut. He only made one trip into outer space, but it was memorable for two reasons.

FIve-week Old Goat ‘Buttermilk’ Will Give Your Day A Boost

Remember the John Denver song "Some Days Are Diamonds."  It goes on to say "some days are stones." In other words, there are good days and there are bad days. Sometimes when you are having a bad day, all it takes to make things better is to see someone else that's happy and having a great time. Meet Buttermilk, the five-week old goat.

Halloween Month Brings Out My Five Favorite Horror Movies

I have to admit, considering the hundreds of horror flicks that have come out in the past 40 years, I have seen relatively few. It's really not my cup of tea. Still, I have seen more than my share. October seems to be a popular month for scary movies, with Halloween coming up,  and so I offer my top five "scary" movies. This is not a list of the best or the scariest. It's simply my favorites.

Mission to Mars Seems Closer Than Ever Before [poll]

For decades, astronomers have been obsessed with the idea of sending a manned mission to Mars. While un-manned missions to the big red planet have become almost routine,  sending men to Mars has been left to Hollywood. Now, researchers have set their sights on getting a crew in the vicinity of Mars by the 2030s.
